Bike Riding Safety
1. No hands is a no no!
2. Use hand
signals for slowing, stopping and turning.
All signals are made with your left arm.
To make a left turn, put your left arm out with your hand pointing left.
To make a right turn, put your left arm out, bend your elbow, and point your
hand up.
To slow down or stop, put your left arm out, hand pointing down, with the
palm facing to the rear.
3. Stop! Look!
Listen!
You must obey all traffic signs and signals.
At a stop sign your must come to a full stop. Check for oncoming traffic in
all directions. When you see that no cars are coming, then you can pedal through.
4. Pedestrians have the right of way.
5. Only one person on a bike.
6. Ride with
traffic, not against it.
Ride on the right side of the road.
7. Ride in a single file on a street with traffic.
8. Look out for cars, car doors and people suddenly moving in front of you.
9. Walk your bicycle across streets with heavy traffic.
10. If the fire whistle blows, stop your bike and wait on the side of the road until the whistle stops.
11. Always wear a helmet!!!!!!
12. Park your
bike safely and courteously. And remember - No bikes on the beaches.
